In today’s reproductive industry, it can be confusing to comprehend what the exact qualifications are to become an egg donor. While most egg banks share the same core requirements, others can vary from bank to bank. Here, we’re going to reveal the truth on the egg donor qualifications at The World Egg and Sperm Bank!
What are the Egg Donor Qualifications?
So, what are the qualifications to donate eggs with us? Let’s pretend you have just reached our website and created an account to apply to donate your eggs! You will be able to see that there are multiple sections including entering some personal information about yourself, as well as sections to fill out about your biological parents and grandparents’ health and history. At the end of the application, you can get creative and share some fun facts about yourself as well as your intentions with donating. You will also upload some high-quality photos of yourself to let your personality shine, so recipients can get to know you!

You can always log back into your account on your phone or laptop if you need to retrieve the necessary information from family members or physicians.

Qualifications to Donate Eggs:
- Gender and Age: Women 18 to 31 years old.
- Location: Must hold a permanent residency in either the United States or Canada along with corresponding official Government issued ID.
- Smoking habits: Must be a nonsmoker.
- Drinking habits: No history of alcohol abuse.
- Form of birth control: If you are on birth control, you can be on the birth control pill, patch, or IUD. You cannot, however, be on Depo-Provera, Implanon, or Nexplanon. If you ever decide to get off those three forms of birth control, you can qualify to donate after two normal periods after getting off said birth control!
- BMI: Having a healthy Body Mass Index level. While we wish that more women would have the opportunity to donate, this requirement is for the safety of the donor in mind during the egg retrieval process, as well as creating the best chance for a future successful pregnancy for aspiring families.
- Knowledge of personal medical history: You must have full and accurate knowledge of your own medical history up to this point.
- Knowledge of family’s medical history: You must have full and accurate knowledge of your family member’s medical history. These family members include:
- Biological father
- Biological mother
- Biological grandmother on both sides
- Biological grandfather on bother sides
- Willingness to commit 2-4 months: For first time donors, the entire egg donation process will take an average of 2 to 4 months. This starts from the point of application to the actual egg retrieval date.
- Willingness to administer medications via injections: In the 2 weeks prior to your egg retrieval, egg donors will self-administer hormone injections. These will stimulate and mature the select number of eggs you will donate.
Once you have finished your application, if it has not stopped you for one of multiple reasons, this means you can move forward with scheduling your convenient zoom interview with one of our friendly donor coordinators!
What Egg Donation Criteria Can Disqualify me after Applying?
It doesn’t stop at egg donor qualifications! Once you’ve finished your online application as well as meeting with our donor coordinators, there are still a few factors that can disqualify you from donating your eggs as we continue through the journey.
Not passing STD Screening
Potential egg donors, in their physical screening, must also undergo cultures to rule out diseases like HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea and chlamydia.
Results of Health screening
You will have your blood drawn for screening and thorough genetic testing to investigate any possible genetic disorders that could disqualify you from donating.
Results of Psychological screening
You will meet with our friendly, certified psychologist to inform and evaluate your understanding and willingness to donate. Do they feel mentally well enough and psychologically prepped to enter this endeavor?
Uncommitted to Medical Schedule
Going through the egg donation process is no small commitment! It requires focus and setting aside the necessary time to go through:
- Physical and Psychological health screenings
- Monitoring and stimulation of your eggs
- Egg retrieval
