Frequently Asked Questions About the Reimbursement for Sperm Donation

FAQ Number One: How Much Do Sperm Donors Make?

To preface, sperm donors are not “paid” for their genetic material. They are reimbursed for their times and expenses from participating in the program long term. So, what are you actually receiving in terms of reimbursement for your time and expenses? Are there other benefits when you become a regular donor in our program? Sperm Donors will gain the following health benefits and monetary restitution at The World Egg and Sperm Bank:

  • FREE physical checkups from our physicians
  • FREE genetic blood testing
  • FREE fertility testing
  • FREE psychological evaluation and review with our clinical psychologist
  • $100 for each donation ($50 up front, and another $50 after FDA mandatory quarantine waiting period for said sample.)

FAQ Number Two: Why are sperm donors reimbursed less than egg donors?

While both eggs and or sperm can help a single person or couple receive the gift of parenthood. One journey of the two requires significantly more effort physically and emotionally, with each donation. While sperm donors can quickly complete their test samples and health screening and begin making regular donations, egg donors must undergo a more rigorous progress including:

  • Multiple ultrasound appointments
  • 2 weeks of self-administered hormone stimulation medication via injection.
  • A minimally invasive procedure requiring the use of sedation and a 1–2-day recovery period, to retrieve their matured eggs.
  • Traveling from out of state (if not an Arizona resident).

Egg donors can also only donate a maximum of six times in their lifetime for their overall health and safety. While sperm donors can donate for a longer, extended period.

FAQ Number Three: What steps do I have to go through to become a sperm donor before I start getting reimbursed?

Reimbursement will not be in effect until you have completed your first donation at our facility in Scottsdale, Arizona (not including your test sample). So, what tasks need to be completed before this? Before you can become a regular donor you must:

  • Take 10 minutes to fill out our online application to ensure you meet our general qualifications.
  • Meet with a member of our clinical sperm bank team at our facility to talk through the next steps and answer all questions you have (no questions are silly questions!).
  • You’ll schedule a test sample and return to our facility to provide your FIRST unofficial sample. Our clinical team will then test it for various sperm health factors, to make sure it is up to the required standards.
  • If you pass your test sample, you will complete health screening at our facility (blood draws, urine samples, physical exam, genetic and psychological counseling).
  • If you pass health screening, you can start regularly donating!

FAQ Number Four: Do we receive the reimbursement all at once?

Reimbursement for each donation comes in two phases. An initial reimbursement of $50 up front and bulk reimbursements after a mandatory quarantine period. This is because each sample requires a 6-month infectious disease blood test, to ensure the sample is healthy and usable even after time passes.

FAQ Number Five: How many times can I donate sperm?

Sperm donors can donate up to 3 times per week for the remainder of their participance in the sperm donor program. This means a donor can be reimbursed up to $1,200 a month. You can easily schedule your donation appointments on our Calendly program. You can pick times that are most convenient for you, as well as reschedule as needed.
