How to Be a Sperm Donor

Step One- Look at Our Qualifications to Donate Sperm

Let’s not get too far ahead! Before investing time and effort into starting this program, let’s have John look at the general qualifications to donate sperm.

  • Men between the ages of 18-39
  • Good physical and mental health
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or hold a permanent residency the United States with a corresponding Government issued ID
  • Lives in Arizona, and is within reasonable driving distance to our facility in Scottsdale, Arizona
  • Willing to visit our facility and provide donations at least once a week.

*If you feel as though you meet each of these requirements, we strongly encourage you to keep reading and apply online (next step)

Step Two- Apply Online on our Website

So, John (the average sperm donor) looked over the qualifications and he thinks that he would be a good fit. Next, John would head to our website and fill out our application form online. This will likely only take him 15 minutes at most to complete, giving us insight on whether John is a qualifying candidate to continue.

Step Three – Meet with Our Team- Provide a Test Sample

After reaching the end of the application (meaning nothing John input resulted in him being denied), John is contacted by our friendly donor coordinators to pay a visit to our facility. Here, we’ll describe in detail the sperm donor journey, as well as set up a test sample.

But what does a test sample mean? Well, at The World Egg and Sperm Bank, our clinical staff must ensure that your sperm is up to our standards or quality and quantity. We wouldn’t want John, or any other donor, to go through the entire process, only to find at the end that their sperm in unviable. We must ensure that our future families have the highest likelihood of conceiving with donor sperm.

When John comes back to provide a test sample, he’ll do so the same way as when (and if) he becomes a full-fledged donor. In our sperm bank there is:

  • Sperm-donor only parking.
  • A private sperm-donor only entrance for their convenience.
  • Spacious waiting room and private donation rooms for the utmost comfortability and privacy.
  • Staggered donation appointments so you’ll be our primary focus!

When we test John’s sperm sample, we’ll be analyzing these qualities:
  • The amount of sperm in their sample of semen
  • How the sperm moves, indicating its ability to swim towards the egg.
  • The shape and size of your sperm
  • How much out of the total amount of sperm is alive.

Step Four – Complete Health Screening

So, John’s test sample looked great and passed our testing. Now, to ensure John is healthy, as well as physically and mentally ready to be in this program, health screening will be completed.

This will include:

  • Two blood draws
  • Urine sample
  • General physical examination
  • Genetic counseling
  • Psychological screening

Step Five – Start Regularly Donating

If John completes health screening, and there is nothing in his genetic or psychological results or counseling deems him unqualified, what happens next. John can become a regular donor and start coming in consistently to provide donations. Our donor coordinators will help him schedule his appointments as well as cancel and or reschedule when needed.
