New Ways to Spring Break

March 1, 2021

Spring Break is notorious for being a week full of partying, letting loose, and finally getting to relax after midterms. However, last March thousands of students returned home eager to celebrate their well deserved week off, only to have the world completely crumble around them. One week off turned into two and then three, and eventually lecture halls were transformed into video calls. It is now a whole year later and much has changed in the world, but one thing remains: we are in a world-wide pandemic.

Your plans for Spring Break 2021 might be looking bleak right about now. Without being able to safely travel, go out, or even hang out with friends; one thing is certain, this year is different. However, different does not necessarily mean you won’t get to let loose or relax.

Here are The World Egg Bank’s suggestions for celebrating Spring Break, safely:

  1. Pamper yourself with a DIY spa. Treat yourself to an at home spa treatment by putting on your comfiest robe and slippers after indulging in a long bubble bath. Smother your skin in a face mask and give yourself a fresh manicure and pedicure.
  2. Escape into a good book. You might not be able to leave the house but delving into a good book can give you the same feeling of getting away. Whether you crave romance or rather crack open a chilling mystery, there is a novel for you.
  3. Or escape into a new TV series if that’s more your thing. Books aren’t for everyone and maybe you just want a mental break. Either way binging a new series is the perfect way to disappear from the real world for a while.
  4. Get your clean on. What better time to spring clean than spring break? Purge your closets, clean out the fridge and pantry, and go through your book or movie collections. Refresh your home in preparation of the new season.
  5. Embrace your creative side. The options here are endless. Maybe you just finished purging your closet and aren’t sure what to do with all the clothes you don’t want. Channel your inner fashion designer, get out your sewing machine or tie dye, and get to work bringing them back to life.
  6. Reconnect with nature. Get out in the beautiful spring weather by going on neighborhood walks, local hikes, or even the beach (if you’re lucky). Please be sure to follow your state’s COVID guidelines.
  7. Conquer a new skill. It might be Spring Break but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn something new. Maybe you have always wanted to learn how to knit, well now is your time! Or maybe you want to learn how to cook. Use Spring Break as an opportunity to cook something new every day.

Spring Break 2021 can be anything you want it to be. A chance to rest, have a spa night. A chance to escape reality, read a book. A chance to catch up, spring clean. A chance to reflect, get outside. The possibilities are endless. In the words of Art Buschwalk, “Whether it’s the best of times or the worst of times, it’s the only time we’ve got,” and you might as well make the most of it, despite the conditions. No matter how you choose to celebrate your week off, please be safe and follow your state’s COVID-19 mandates.
