Tonya Heilbrun, Client Representative for The World Egg Bank, spends each day assisting individuals and couples through the delicate process of searching for an egg donor to grow their family. What you might not know is that Tonya has a unique story of her own!
Tonya had always wanted to be a mom, even putting her career on hold to prepare for motherhood. After six months of trying to conceive and still being unsuccessful, she and her husband decided it was time to seek assistance. Tonya’s OB/GYN ran a few tests and referred her to a reproductive endocrinologist. After doing three IUI cycles with no success, she learned that she had a very low egg count and poor egg quality for her age. Tonya and her husband saw several different doctors throughout this process, all coming back with the same answer—using an egg donor would be their best option.
In 2003, the couple became recipients of donor eggs from The World Egg Bank. They did a fresh cycle using the donor eggs and got pregnant on the first try with two embryos, which became her beautiful twin sons. Six short months after the birth of her twins, she miraculously became pregnant with her third biological son. Listen to Tonya speak on the Beat Infertility podcast to learn more about her infertility journey as well as hear her advice to others that are currently facing the same struggles and considering the use of donor eggs:
